Congratulations to RJ Dames who was chosen to represent South Africa at the Taiwan International Science Fair 2016 in Taipei. He will present his Science project to other students and the public and he will be judged on his research by experienced judges.

RJ Dames participated in the International Science Fair of Eskom Expo for Young Scientists in Boksburg during the October holidays. He represented the Eden Karoo District and he won two special prizes of R5 000 and one year's uncapped data. He was also chosen as a finalist to represent his country in another country's Science Fair. He was interviewed at Bishops College in Cape Town on his knowledge of South Africa as he will be an ambassador of South Africa's ability to do Science research and come up with bright new ideas.  RJ invented a new way to measure the exact height a high jumper jumps during a contest. He patented his invention and will improve his project even more before leaving for Taiwan on 22 January 2016.

The Eskom International Science Fair (ISF) is the culmination of 34 intensive regional competitions held in all nine provinces in July and August, where these young scientists presented their scientific ideas and research projects. Mexico, Namibia, Zimbabwe Swaziland, Thailand and Brazil also had participants.

The expo's primary aim is to encourage the youth of South Africa, and Africa in general, to participate in science, technology, engineering, maths and innovation activities in order to promote an interest in these areas with the long-term view to developing scientific skills.

The aim of the Eskom Science Expo

Eskom Expo for Young Scientists is an exposition, or science fair, where students have a chance to show others their projects about their own scientific investigations.

At Expo, students can discuss their work with judges, teachers and students from other schools, with parents and with other interested people.

By participating at expo students will increase their awareness of the wonders of science, add to their knowledge and broaden their scientific horizons.

Our Mission is to develop young scientists who are able to identify a problem, analyse information, find solutions and communicate findings effectively.

For over thirty years, the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists has been at the forefront of unearthing the country's most innovative and talented science minds across South Africa's rural and urban areas.

This premier science exposition is open to primary and high school learners and prize winners at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists International Science Fair held in Johannesburg receive laptops, mobile science kits, university bursaries and some even get the opportunity to participate in prestigious international science fairs.

The Eskom Expo, which is endorsed by the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Basic Education, is an ideal platform and opportunity for learners to share their bright ideas with peers and judges, and are assessed according to internationally accepted ethics and standards.

Eskom Wetenskap Ekspo

Is education killing your back?'.
